„The quartering suggests a cross, which could well represent a window cross. On the one hand this imaginary window can act as an unwanted aloofness of the scenario. But also as an absolutely necessary distance piece to the scenario. Some things should better remain apparitional and should not get within direct reach. Hanging on the wall it looks like a trophy.” – C

“When I saw them in their transparent transport boxes, one neatly squeezed next to the other, I felt instantly drawn to these rubber masks which the Red Cross uses for their first aid courses incl. mouth-to-mouth resuscitation. They appear intriguingly human and in their silent dignity, with their eyes closed, they seem to be full of wisdom and seem to defend old values and morals in a futuristic, modern world.“ – C

  • “Trash Palace” photograms for French producer Dimitri Tikovoi (intended for use on the official Trash Palace website)
[“It’s just too cool ! Many, many thanx to your genius mind !” – Dimitri]
“The initial idea was to do one photogram for each song from the ‘Positions’ album. To visualize ‘Je T’aime (Moi Non Plus)’ I chose a tattoo heart with a banner across it that was saying ‘Moi non plus’. I found it quite funny and also honest because nobody actually would get a tattoo like this done – a heart saying ‘don’t love you either’. And there’s a choir of angels just about visible above the heart…Dimitri enthused, ‘I love the idea of the moi non plus tattoo on the heart, maybe I should do it !’” – C
  • concert photography: Sneaker Pimps (Germany), Trash Palace (France)
“Most of the photos that I had taken of Placebo and other bands in the past years were used for the online version of ‘carpe diem’. The website went online in April 2002 and was very successful and popular among the music fans. I continued to be responsible for the whole contents of cd, like writing the articles/reviews, finding the latest news, taking the pictures, preparing and doing interviews, corresponding with the fans and making new ‘n interesting contacts as well as advertising the site and sending out newsletters. Naturally some of my drawings and cartoons were on display as well.”

1999

  • “The Uses Of Literacy” book published by Book Works, London, 01.05.99, in an edition of 1.500, featuring the Nicky Wire drawing
“Jeremy Deller’s The Uses of Literacy was originally an exhibition of art works produced by fans of the Manic Street Preachers. The project was a poetic visual record – seen through often extraordinary images – of the screams, sighs and whispers of some remarkable young people. Embracing the cultural commentary of the Manic Street Preachers, Jeremy Deller encapsulated the creative genius of the young artists’ personal feelings and thoughts.” – Marc Casnewydd
“Jeremy talks about the fans as being the ‘moral shareholders’ of a band, the keepers, or creators, of their soul in the face of inevitable commercial compromises, and about the way the fans, through their love, give it all meaning and make their subjective world live. I think that’s absolutely true.” – C
  • concert photography: Placebo/Hurricane Festival, Nine Inch Nails, Dream City Film Club
